Day Two of the ICT Workshop (part 2)

Internet Research

The second presentation was on the way with Mrs. Williams-Angmor. Although we were plagued with technical difficulties, the presentation in general was very informative.

Do you believe that technology is pulling us or are we leading the way?

Through search engines we are able to access just about anything in the world with just a few click.

Here are a few thing we should keep in mind when doing a websearch and a list of websites that could be very useful.

How to Validate a Website

Check the name
Check links
Recognise the domain name
Checking extension of the domain name - (.edu  .net and so on)
Country code (.ag  .uk etc)

You could apply the acronym REAL:

Read the URL
Examine the Content
Ask about the author
Learn from what you see

I trust that we all will find this useful in preparing for our classes.

Day Two of the ICT Workshop

The second day of the ITC Workshop beagn with devotions by Mr. Ronald Greenaway.  Our first presenter was Mr. Kevin Joseph, discuss the use of the internet around the world and the fact that nothing on the internet is private.  We were also introduced to two sites - Khan Academy and the iTunesU.

The most interesting part of Mr. Joseph's presentation was when he utilized the Google Map to show how the the internet is being used by the different educational institutions around the island.  He was able pinpoint their exact position and what device they were actually accessing the internet with.

Quite Interesting!  What were we reminded of?  NOTHING IS PRIVATE ON THE INTERNET!!!
